The departures
Shared group tours
You book a seat, not a whole vehicle — which is why these cost a fraction of a private trip. Same roads, same camp, same guide. Pick where you want to start and where you want to finish.
What every departure includes
Not included: lunches, drinks, entrance fees and tips. A luxury camp with a private en-suite tent, a real bed and a hot shower can be added — ask me for the supplement.
Your guide
Omar
I'm from Morocco and I've spent the last five years on these roads — the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the Dades, the long straight run down to Merzouga. I drive the minibus, I guide the group, and I'm the one who sorts the camp and the stops along the way.
A shared tour doesn't have to feel like a coach trip. There are never more than eighteen of us, we stop where the view is worth stopping for, and by the second night most groups are eating together like they've known each other for years. If you want to know what you're signing up for, the photographs further down are all from my own departures.

Before you book
Questions I get every week
How do I book a seat?
Send me the form on this page or a WhatsApp message with your dates and how many of you there are. I'll confirm whether that departure still has seats and tell you the exact price. There is no payment on this website.
When and how do I pay?
In person at the start of the tour, in cash — dirham or euro. If you'd rather pay by bank transfer beforehand, ask me and I'll send the details.
Where exactly do you pick me up?
At your riad or hotel, if the minibus can reach it. In the old medinas the streets are too narrow for a vehicle, so we agree on the nearest square or gate — I send you the meeting point the evening before. Departures leave at 07:00.
What is the desert camp like?
The standard camp is a Berber tent shared with other travellers, with mattresses, blankets, shared bathrooms, dinner, breakfast and drums around the fire. The luxury camp gives you a private tent with a real bed, a hot shower and your own bathroom for a supplement. Both are in the dunes of Erg Chebbi, reached by camel at sunset.
Who else will be on the tour?
Travellers from all over — usually eight to eighteen people, mostly couples, friends and solo travellers in their twenties to forties. Solo travellers are very common on these departures and never end up on their own.
When is the best time to go?
March to May and September to November are the best months: warm days, cold clear nights. June to August is very hot, so we start early and rest in the shade at midday. December to February is quiet and beautiful, but bring a proper jacket — the camp drops close to freezing after dark.
What should I bring?
A warm layer for the desert night, closed shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf for the wind and a power bank. Your big luggage stays in the minibus; you take a small bag to the camp.
Can I change my dates or cancel?
Yes — cancellation is free up to 48 hours before departure, and changing to another date is usually no problem if there are seats. Just message me as early as you can.
